Southwark Industrial Audit Interactive Map
An interactive map visualising some of the data and photographs collected during the 2019 Southwark Industrial Audit.
In 2019 Cities Research Group undertook an audit of every industrial functional unit in the London Borough of Southwark. We went to visit all the properties in Southwark which had been identified in the the GLA 2015 industrial land baseline and associated GIS database London Industrial Land Supply & Economy Study 2015 and asked questions about how many people worked there, what sector they were involved in, whether the premises were suitable, whether their business was growing or shrinking and much, much more. The quantitative data we have collected is unique and fascinating, and gives a snapshot of Southwark as a hub of entrepreneurial industrial activity, much of it creative and manufacturing-based. Here in this interactive map, the data we have collected has been combined with data collected and collated by We Made That in the Old Kent Road Business Survey Update 2019, which covered the Old Kent Road area. In the interactive map, the data from the Cities survey is connected to building footprints, while the We Made That data is indicated as points. Hover over buildings or points to see some of the facts associated with that location, and switch the layers of the map on and off to see the geographic extents of different industrial sectors in the London Borough of Southwark.
