Shaping Southwark Community Hustings
A community hustings with a difference, focused on planning and regeneration the month ahead of May 2018 local elections.
The hustings, organised by the Southwark Planning Network and AAD Cities/VitalOKR, took place on April 14th 2018 at Christ Church Peckham, 676–680 Old Kent Road. It focussed on planning and regeneration, with a community exhibition featuring Cities’ and Vital OKR research on planning issues across the borough, as well as displays from community groups from the Old Kent Road and beyond, giving local people and business owners an opportunity to understand the landscape of the local economy and what is at stake in planning and regeneration. The exhibition was followed by hustings with the main parties’ candidates and spokespeople, which was Tweeted from @shapesouthwark, where you can see summaries of the main points made.

“This is a hustings with a difference, creating a space where community perspectives on important planning policy matters can be raised with politicians seeking election. We all suffer from the problems caused by the planning system, the deficient consultation process and the impacts of regeneration. These never get addressed properly in the local elections we have every four years. This hustings is aimed at helping to correct the democratic deficit.”
