The document summarises eleven unique examples, within London, where planning permission has been granted for schemes comprising of residential and industrial co-location.

London is in the midst of a housing crisis: demand far outstrips supply and inner city land values are soaring. As a result of this there are growing pressures on London’s industry, as less profitable land uses are forced out of the capital to make way for residential schemes. AAD Cities are conscious of the fact that we must consider how industrial areas can be used more intensively and have begun to collate innovative precedents that combines both residential and industrial uses on singular sites.

This document summarises eleven unique examples, within London, where planning permission has been granted for schemes comprising of residential and industrial co-location. Although the uses of these projects are varied, all have some spatial qualities that can be replicated in other projects that seek to co-locate industry and housing. These projects are evidence that housing and industry can sit side by side, and help to create rich and economically diverse cities.
